Chow Gar Training & Forms

Chow Gar Forms

The forms of Southern Praying Mantis teach structure, power, breathing, and the unique short‑range shock power that defines the system. Each form develops a different part of your strength, control, and close‑range ability.

Sarm Bo Jin – Three Step Arrow Punch

The foundation of Chow Gar. This form builds rooting, alignment, breath power, and explosive short force. Every student returns to Sarm Bo Jin — it’s the core of the entire system.

Sarm Bo Pai Kiu – Three Step Slicing Bridge

Develops bridge‑hand pressure, cutting power, and the ability to break through an opponent’s guard. It trains the forward, slicing energy that Chow Gar is known for.

More Than Just Two Forms

This is only a glimpse into the system. Forms like Yui Kui (Shake Off Bridge) and Fut Sau (Buddhist Hands) each develop different aspects of internal power, structure, and close‑range control.

                                                                                                  SOLID HANDS

Hard Training – Nar Loong Jau (Hard Dragon Claws)

Chow Gar Southern Praying Mantis is known for its tough, direct, and uncompromising approach to close‑range fighting. Conditioning is a core part of the system. Students strengthen the whole body — hands, arms, shoulders, hips, back, legs, and even the mindset — so every part can be used to attack or defend.

Training can feel demanding at first, but it builds real resilience. Chow Gar uses short, explosive power with no wasted movement. The system is aggressive, efficient, and designed for practical self‑defence. Students learn to stay light on their feet, relaxed yet solid, focused, and always aiming for vital targets with intent and precision.
